Our Projects

Pakistan Flood Appeal

The devastating floods in Pakistan during August 2010 affected fourteen million people and the world responded magnificently with aid and money but NPAC came in to it’s own and was consulted by many people in the UK who were anxious to contribute. Our experience in logistics and our firmness in dissuading well meaning people from doing things that clog up the distribution chain has helped to guarantee fast-flowing and even aid for twelve months. Zambia

Zambia is one of the many developing African countries that are both willing and able to help themselves but lack the basic tools and equipment to do so. Zambians are very enthusiastic about modern health care and vaccinations and passionate about educating their children but clinics and schools in the savanna areas lack basic hygiene facilities, books and equipment. You can help: take a look at our Basic Buckets for Basic Schools list and our Impala clinic boxes and see what you can do.

You can read the blog of our July 2010 visit to Zambia.

Destinations Cycle Project

The Destinations cycle project is a wonderful alliance between NPAC and the Newark Magnus school to renovate the hundreds of cycles and wheelchairs from UK police property stores and hospital storerooms for use by people in Africa.

The project which is based in an NPAC warehouse in Newark, Notts allows young people in Newark to work with teachers and practical people from the community to supply good solid reliable cycles to African people for free.

Cycles are the only means of transport for thousands of Africans and the Destinations project will have adapted them with luggage racks forward and aft for the carriage of maize, cotton and all manner of cargo.

The unit also houses the NPAC warehouse, the MAPLE project, the Cinderella wedding dress project and has scope for many more exciting and useful outreach opportunities for local youth.

Current and Other Past Projects

  • Heritage School twinning
Between now and when it moves to shiny new premises in January 2011, the Heritage school in Clowne is carefully packaging all its redundant equipment to send in four containers to Nyimba High School, Eastern Province, Zambia. There will then follow a programme of twinning the schools over the next few years.
  • Cinderella
A fascinating and magical project that was started by NPAC in Russia orphanages but has successfully transferred to Zambia and beyond that utilises once-worn, end of line and sample wedding dresses from the UK to loan FREE  OF CHARGE to girls in poor countries who would never dream of wearing one for their special day.  The salons and workshops that prepare them provide inspirational work for many people.
  • Education
Entry to Employment, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Scouts, Guides, Youth Offending Teams and other youth groups are engaged in our warehouses doing valuable work, in a great atmosphere to earn their qualifications and perhaps to go abroad and see the results of their labours.
  • Rwanda
We are proud to be working with a host of other charities in Rwanda bringing some relief, support and education to the lingering consequences of the civil war and genocide of the 1990s.
  • Ghana
We are proud to work with charities in Ghana who have identified some of the poorest and under priveledged areas where we can bring our brand of continuos support. We also assist the Police with protection equipment in the fight with organised criminals who are often better equipped then they.
  • Commercial operation – Lorry
We run our own lorry on a commercial basis but are happy to assist other charities who need a break-even deal with moving their things around.
  • Recent News

We are very grateful that all our warehouses are on loan but it has it downside and we are now on short notice to quit one of the two in Nottingham and have to make some hasty moves. The dates for containers for Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia have been brought forward and will be loaded [...]

    • Container artwork

Over the last two years we have been buying 40′ containers with the intention of leaving them on site in remote areas of Africa for use as storage or homes, once our goods have been emptied. This also gives us plenty of time to fill them professionally!  Some local young people with help from professional [...]
